BOOK REVIEWS| Heir of Ashes & The Curse – Jina S. Bazzar

Hi everyone!

Today, I’m reviewing both Heir of Ashes and The Curse by Jina S. Bazzar. A huge thank you to Jina for providing me copies of the books in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend checking out both books, and definitely check out Jina’s blog. 😊

*Reviews will be spoiler free.*

Heir of Ashes

Roxanne Fosch had a perfectly normal life at the age of twelve. Cool, popular, pretty, smart. Her dreams of a perfect, successful and prosperous future seemed well within her grasp.
By the time she was twenty-two she had become a commodity. A fugitive. She was being hunted.
As Roxanne embarks on the dangerous quest to search for half-truths about her past, she discovers she’s not just an abnormal human, but a rarity even among her Fee peers.
She is hunted by scientists, keen to exploit her extraordinary abilities, as well as other beings far more dangerous whose plans for her she cannot fathom.

This is one action-packed book, and I had a lot of fun reading it. I enjoyed the plot twists and mystery, and it really had me sucked in from the beginning.

Things are revealed slowly, and there isn’t any info dumping, which I really admired. In a story like this, since it would be super confusing to be caught up in descriptions.

I love Roxanne so much. Her emotions are so well written, that I felt them along with her. She is brave, fierce and also sometimes scared. That is what an MC is supposed to be. Well rounded and relatable. I’m really looking forward to her growth in the next books.

I love Jina’s writing style. She slowly gives you the info you need, while building the suspense and keeping you invested the whole way through. That definitely takes talent and I’m looking forward to reading the next book!

The Curse

Yoncey Fosch, the leader of the Unseelie Dhiultadh clan would give anything to save his brother from a mysterious plague. Anything, including his leadership mantle and a favor to his deadliest enemy, Queen Titania’s consort.
But his actions will have far reaching consequences, and Fosch realizes he is not only unwilling to pay the price, but will defy anyone who calls him on it.

This is a very character driven prequel, providing a lot of background information and character development needed to understand some connection elements in Heir of Ashes.

I think it was really great to get some insight on what happened before, why certain decisions were made, and it overall gave me a better understanding of Roxanne’s origin and the world itself.

I did read this prior to reading Heir of Ashes, and I think it doesn’t matter which order you read. I found myself drawn into this story immediately, and the excitement of this story had me really wanting to jump into Heir of Ashes.

A quick read that provides more background info and insight needed to fully immerse yourself in Roxanne’s story.
